This program offers a guided visit to Yajiro Kokeshi Village in Shiroishi, led by a Master of Traditional Crafts officially certified by the Japanese government.
Yajiro-style Kokeshi is one of 11 regional styles and originated in Shiroishi.
The city also hosts the All-Japan Kokeshi Competition, one of the top three in the country, and is home to four certified Masters of Traditional Crafts.
Among them are a Prime Minister’s Award recipient and a craftsman who has demonstrated at the Louvre Museum.
Participants will learn about the history and styles of Kokeshi dolls, observe traditional woodworking techniques, and create their own Kokeshi doll —
a one-of-a-kind and memorable cultural experience available only in Shiroishi.
